ABOUT US
WE PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR BOWEL CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR CARERS:
- We arrange meetings and discussion groups where health professionals give talks on all aspects of bowel cancer including diet, exercise, stress and well-being.
- We give you the opportunity to meet with others who have experienced similar problems to yourself in a comfortable meeting place.
- Our volunteers (all ex-bowel cancer patients) will give advice on practical non- medical matters using their own experience and training. We always advise patients to consult their GP on any medical issue.
- We also arrange organised walks, outings etc to help confidence and well-being.
STEERING GROUP
- A Steering Group was set up to organise, supervise and develop the activities of the Support Group.
- The Steering Group is made up from volunteers (all bowel cancer patient and/or carers together with a senior member of the Colorectal Nurse team).
FUNDING
- We were founded in 2005 and received help from Sheffield PCT and Macmillan Cancer Support for initial training needs and costs.
- We are now required to raise our own funds through various fund raising activities and charitable aid.
- We keep our costs to the minimum and all our expenses are recorded. Our volunteers contribute in donations as well as their time and claim no expenses of any kind.
- We are grateful to all our sponsors for their support in funding our Group.
- Additional sponsorship is being sought to secure our future position and to continue to enhance our ability to help patients and carers.
